A PRACTICAL GUIDE

Use the image tool above

Reduce photo file size in your browser with a quality setting you can control. Still encodes the result on your device and shows its actual size before you download.

What to check before you save

Start with Medium quality, then compare the preview at the size it will be used. If a web page displays a photo at half its source width, resizing the pixels can save more than lowering quality alone.

Three quick steps

  1. Choose the image from your device; the browser reads it locally.
  2. Set the required dimensions, output format and optional file-size target.
  3. Review the actual encoded file size and preview, then download a separate copy.

Keep the source requirement in view

Upload forms and publishing platforms can ask for several things at once: pixel width and height, a maximum file size, a format, a crop or print resolution. Satisfy each requirement independently. Still shows measured bytes and output dimensions, but the receiving service’s current instructions decide whether a file is accepted.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Frequently asked questions

Does compression change image dimensions?

Not by itself. Set a width and height if you also want to resize the image.

Will every image become smaller?

No. Some PNG or already-optimized files grow when re-encoded. Still reports the measured output size and calls that out.

Where is my image processed?

Canvas processes the selected file locally in your browser. Still Studio does not upload the image.

What should I check after compress an image online?

Review the preview, dimensions, output format and measured file size. Confirm that they match the receiving service’s current instructions.
