A PRACTICAL IMAGE TOOL
Free image size reducer in KB, pixels, centimetres or inches
Different websites ask for different image sizes. A form may set a file limit in kilobytes, a design may need exact pixel dimensions, and a print shop may ask for centimetres or inches. Still Studio lets you choose the measurement that matches the job. Enter a width and height, keep the proportions locked, and preview the actual output before saving it.
For a strict upload limit, set a target file size in KB under More control. The browser tries lower image quality first and reduces dimensions only when quality alone cannot reach the target. The size shown is measured from the encoded file, so you can see when a limit was reached and when the requested size needs more room.
Resize JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP and WebP images
Still Studio accepts common photo and graphic formats. GIF files are processed as a still image using the first decoded frame; animation is not retained in the exported file. BMP and other large source files can become much smaller as JPG or WebP. PNG is useful when you need transparency or crisp graphic edges. You can also save a single-page PDF for sharing or printing.
When converting a transparent image to JPG or PDF, choose a background colour in More control. JPG has no transparency channel, so transparent areas need a solid colour behind them.
Compress photos without guessing
Low, Medium and High are starting points, not promises about a specific percentage. Every source image contains different detail, so the final size depends on the image, dimensions and selected format. Still Studio encodes your image in the browser and reports the resulting bytes. If the converted file is larger than the original, the comparison says so instead of claiming a saving.
For websites, modern formats like Google WebP format often offer a useful balance between image quality and file size. Keep a higher quality when fine texture matters, and reduce dimensions when the image will be displayed much smaller than its original size.
Change image DPI for print sizing
DPI connects pixel dimensions to a physical print size: at 300 DPI, a 1,200-pixel image prints about 4 inches wide. Set the intended resolution and choose inches or centimetres to calculate output pixels. Browsers do not preserve every source file’s print metadata, so check the saved file in your print workflow before production.
Private, free and ready when you are
Your image is opened as a local browser file and processed with the standard HTML5 Canvas API (MDN Docs). It is not uploaded to Still Studio. No account is needed, and you can remove an image from the workspace at any time. PDF support loads the jsPDF library only when you choose PDF; the image itself remains on your device.
QUESTIONS, ANSWERED
Image resizing FAQs
Are my images uploaded?
No. Image decoding and processing happen locally in your browser. The file is not sent to our server.
How do I make an image smaller than 50 KB?
Choose your image, enter 50 in the target size field, and wait for the actual output size. If the source cannot reach the limit at a useful quality, the tool reports the closest result it could encode.
Will resizing keep the image shape?
Yes, the aspect-ratio lock is on by default. You can turn it off for exact width and height, or use Fit and Fill to keep the image proportional inside a chosen frame.
Can I resize an animated GIF?
The browser can open a GIF for conversion, but Canvas exports a still frame. It does not retain the original animation.
Can I use the result for an exam or government form?
You can set the pixel dimensions and file-size limit requested by a form. Requirements vary and can change, so check the latest official instructions before submitting.
